Gaunts House Retreat ­- Programme – July 2018

This retreat combines yoga, mindfulness, creativity, and is designed to help you relax, stretch and detox. The weekend will rejuvenate your body, mind and soul, and revive you at many levels as a human being. Take a break from your busy life and join us for a wonderful weekend in the beautiful and peaceful countryside. The best way to get here is by car, but by train it’s about 2hrs 15 mins to Poole Station from Waterloo and then we can arrange shared taxis for around £7 per head.

Location

 Gaunt’s House is situated on a stunning estate of protected Dorset countryside totaling nearly 2000 acres, just 3 miles from the pretty market town on Wimborne Minster. It has a four-acre lake as well as many acres of private bluebell woods. There are plenty of wonderful spots for relaxation or meditation as the Dorset Starhenge rests in the grounds of Gaunts House and is in geometric triangulation with the sacred sites of Glastonbury, Avebury and Stonehenge. Gaunts House is a place to unwind and return to that quiet place within. Space to think, space to breathe, space to be. There is an open-air swimming pool to enjoy and woodland walks.

See link to full programme above.  The weekend will include four 90-minute yoga classes taught by yoga teacher, Sherin Shefik, who will mainly teach vinyasa flow yoga, but also combines lots of different styles of yoga into her teaching, (including yin, restorative, hatha, ashtanga, acro and partner yoga).The classes are suitable for all levels. Each class will be designed around one of four natural elements: earth (grounding), air (opening), fire (igniting) and water (letting go). There are numerous mindfulness meditations, practices and discussions, which will be led by mindfulness teachers Deborah Wharton and Shenel Shefik. There will be other diverse and exciting activities on the programme too, a poetry workshop (where you will get to try your hand at writing a poem), mindful dance (you might be given a blind-fold!), and a life coaching workshop. We have an excellent local practitioner of massage and reflexology and she can be booked in advance or on site for additional cost. She will also be delivering the gong bath at the end for an extra £10 per head for those who want to stay.

The variety and fullness of this programme means that there is something for everyone, whether you come alone or with your partner or friends/family. All sessions are, of course, optional so you can pick and choose as you flow through the weekend.

Food

The vegetarian dining is praised for its tasty, versatile menus. Gaunts house believe in using fresh, local ingredients.  Seasonal fruit and vegetables, including herbs, often come from the walled vegetable garden. All dietary requirements can be accommodated. Tea and coffee facilities are available all day, and homemade cakes and biscuits will be served during the day.

The Facilitators 

  • Sherin Shefik – Yoga Teacher

Sherin has been practicing yoga regularly for over 15 years. She teaches vinyasa flow yoga, but also incorporates lots of different styles of yoga, including yin, restorative, hatha, astanga, acro and partner yoga. Her aim is to teach flowing classes from the heart, to funky and spiritual music, whilst also incorporating soft and gentle sections that encourage a deep sense of nurturing. She aims to establish connection between the mind and body, and enjoys giving students the freedom to listen to their own bodies. Yoga is one of her greatest joys, which has merged with her love of creative arts, nature, poetry, mindfulness, philosophy, and the cosmic universe. Classes are suitable for all levels.  See her website http://www.sherinshe.com/yoga/

  • Shenel Shefik – Qualified Teacher and Mindfulness Facilitator

Shenel is head of psychology at a successful London school and incorporates mindfulness in her teachings.  She also teaches teenagers yoga.

  • Deborah Wharton – Mindfulness Teacher and Coach and iREST facilitator

Deborah teaches Mindfulness Wellbeing and coaches small groups of busy professionals. She is a qualified coach and mindfulness practitioner. She is a teacher in training for Integrative Restoration that combines yoga nidra, co-meditation and mindful practices.

  • Scania – Holistic Therapist

Scania is available for a wide range of therapies over the weekend, including massage, reflexology and reiki healing sessions. This will cost approximately £40 per hour. See her website her for more information: http://www.iamscania.com/

Accommodation

Gaunts House offers comfortable accommodation. We have a combination of single rooms and double/twin/triple/quad rooms, some with shared bathroom facilities and some with ensuites. Please see costs section below for break-down of prices. Single people, friends and couples are all welcome. Some of the rooms will be in the main house and others will be in the newly developed Stables block just a minute’s walk from the main house – both are lovely.

The full weekend starts on Friday evening at 5pm and ends on Sunday at 3 pm.
